Encoder systems

Whether built-in encoders or add-on encoders – with our systems, your motors will respond accurately to commands from the drive electronics. Speed control and positioning are not the only reasons why you should use our encoders.

Easily implement positioning tasks

Various encoder types for your plant

The optimum interaction between the individual system components is particularly important in applications with positioning tasks. Motors have to accurately respond to commands from the drive electronics. We can supply you with the necessary encoder systems.

These systems detect the actual position and feed back the speed into the drive electronics. If you are using drives with absolute value information, this saves you time during initialisation of the plant.

Our large selection of encoders allows you to control and position your plant according to your requirements:

  • Incremental encoders with the conventional signal levels TTL (Transistor-Transistor Logic) and HTL (High Threshold Logic)
  • Incremental rotary encoders with sin/cos tracks
  • Absolute encoders with RS485 and sin/cos tracks
  • Absolute encoders with SSI (Synchronous Serial Interface), single-turn encoders and multi-turn encoders
  • Built-in encoders

Your benefits

  • No additional length on the motor

because the built-in encoders are placed between the end shield and the fan so that the encoder has a compact profile when attached to the motor.
  • Outstanding versatility

thanks to standardised signals for incremental encoders as well as single-turn and multi-turn encoders.
  • Extremely easy startup

because encoders with an “integrated nameplate” make startup with our frequency inverters a snap.

Add-on encoder

Features

The encoder designs in motors of DR.. series have been developed to fulfill requirements with a structural design that is fully integrated and as compact as possible.

Incremental encoders, type ES7., EG7., EH7, EV7.

Incremental encoders are suitable for speed control and positioning. They have two signal tracks and a zero pulse track with the negated signal. The incremental encoders are designed as spread-shaft encoders (ES7.), plug-in shaft encoders with end thread (EG7.), hollow shaft encoders (EH7.) or solid shaft encoders with a coupling (EV7.). Signal output: TTL, HTL or sin/cos.

Absolute encoders, type A..Y / A..H / A..W

The A..Y, A..H and A..W absolute encoders are combination encoders. They contain a multi-turn absolute encoder and a high-resolution sine encoder. You can choose between an SSI or an asynchronous-serial interface for transmission of absolute value data. Further, the A..H and AS7W absolute encoders are equipped with an electronic nameplate.

Connection alternatives

The encoders of types /ES7, /EG7, /EV7, /AS7, /AG7 and /AV7 can be supplied in three connection variants:

  • With connection cover
  • With connection cover, 0.3 m cable length and M23 connector
  • Without connection cover

We recommend that you use prefabricated cables. Our prefabricated cables allow you to use the encoders without a connection cover, since this cover is already part of the cable.

Built-in encoders

Features

Built-in encoders

The built-in encoders for motors of the DR.. series are one of a kind: instead of an add-on encoder on the fan guard on the B-side, an encoder can be placed between the end shield and the fan. This means that encoder mounting does not add additional length to the motor.

For example, if you use a MOVITRAC® standard inverter with the “Simple positioning” application module, you can successfully implement applications that would have previously required rapid/creep speed switching with initiator evaluation.
